Hey everyone!  It has been over a month since I posted my first (and only) blog.  I hope your month was as good as mine was!   I had meant to be blogging weekly, but this was a very busy month for me.  I was able to go visit my family in Arizona for more than a week.  We all had a blast staying at my sister's house.  It was hard to leave but nice to be back home again, too.

I am still trying to get my name out there and sell some diaper cakes! :) I was able to make one for a friend and deliver it to her while I was visiting in Arizona. I was so glad that I was able to hand deliver the gift and see her and her sweet baby boy.   We spent the day together, in Tombstone, and I got to hold her baby quite a bit.  He is one handsome little guy!  It was hard parting ways later that night.  Hopefully, we can visit again soon.

Now that we are back home, I am ready to design some more diaper cakes.  And I have a few other ideas up my sleeve as well.  But I will wait until I have something to show you before I tell you about them. But I can tell you my good news. :)  I sold my first diaper cake over this last weekend!!  I mailed it out on Monday. Hopefully, more sales will be coming my way.

This last week or so I have been learning how to use my Wishblade.  I purchased it used a few years ago and never even took it out of the box!  Shortly after I bought it I met my husband and we were courting and then planning a wedding and there was never enough time.  Now that I am a stay-at-home-step-mom I have a little more time on my hands.

I ran into a few problems because my wishblade didn't want to run on Windows 7.  I found some very helpful info on the web that suggested downloading Silhouette Studio.  It works perfectly.  Although I am still learning, I have come alot farther now that I have the right tools.

I just tucked the kids into bed so now I think I am going to use this time to do something creative.  Hope you all have a wonderful evening!!

Introduction...

Hi!  My name is Marlene and I am "The Diaper Cake Baker".  I am married to the most wonderful and loving husband for almost two years now , and I am a full time step-mommy to the two best kids who are more than I could have hoped for.

I am originally from the great state of Arizona, but for the past two years I have called California home.  I love it here in Cali, but I miss my friends and family back in AZ.  There is so much here to see and do!  There is just not enough time (or money) to do it all.  We love when family comes to visit us because we, of course get to enjoy their company, but also because we always end up going to Yosemite National Park.  It is just amazing there! But that's another story.

Back to me...Not in a concieted way, but in a I-want-you-to-get-to-know-me way.
Since moving here to California I have been unable to find work.  Not for a lack of trying or a lack of skills, but more to do with the fact that I need to be here at home with the kids while my husband works.  So, my schedule is limited and most employers don't like limitations.  Also, I have some health problems that would make it difficult for me to work full time again.

So, I have decided that I will work from home.  That is easier said than done!  I have looked into many different online jobs and just couldn't find anything that seemed legit.  Just when all hope was about to be lost I remembered a dream of mine that I never thought I would be able to make a reality.  Making diaper cakes!

If you have never heard of this before then I am sure that it sounds a little strange.  I remember when I first heard of it about 6 years ago.  I was planning my best friend's baby shower.  I wanted everything to be perfect.  I spent long hours on the internet researching games that we could play, decoration ideas and pretty much anything baby shower related.  I stumbled across a recipe for a diaper cake.  I thought it was going to be edible.  It was much cooler than that!  It included rolled diapers and various other baby items that would be useful for a new baby.  The end result though, is much more than that description lets on.  It resembles a wedding cake when it is finished.  You have to see the pictures to really appreciate it.

At the shower my friend was taking each person to the cake table where the diaper cake I had created was sitting next to the cake we were going to eat.  She was so proud of it that she wanted to make sure that everyone saw it!  Once, the shower was over she refused to take the diaper cake apart and use it the way that it was intended.  Instead she used it as a decoration in her daughters room.  It felt really wonderful to do something that meant so much to her.  A few days after her shower she showed up at my house with roses and a thank you gift for me.  That was totally unexpected and unnecessary, but still greatly appreciated!

Since then I have had the opportunity to make diaper cakes for other baby showers that I was attending.  Each time I made one I seemed to get better at it.  I guess it's true what they say about practice making perfect, or at least practice making better!  I am by no means perfect in any way, but I really do enjoy making them.  I have been told many times that I should sell my cakes, but there was always a reason not to.  Like work.  I have worked since I was 14 and I just never had enough time.  Now, it seems like the perfect time.  I just hope that it works out!

I am new at this blogging thing, so please bear with me as I figure it all out. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog!!  I hope you will subscribe!!
